CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP
Honestly, I was scared I wouldn’t get any testers for this since it looks a little more complicated and longer than typical amigurumi. But lucky enough, I had 2 really wonderful and thorough testers. There were so many good suggestions, I remade another Chewtle to confirm all the updates do indeed make it easier for the next crocheter. Best of all, they both made a version where Chewtle balances rather than falling on its head.
Please go check out their work on instagram!
Hook size: 3.5 mm or 3.75mm
I used a 3.75mm hook, but it’s always up to your own discretion. The best advice is to find the hook that is the closest in size to your yarn.
Being in Canada, these were the specific brands and colours I was able to find and use for my project:
Light Blue = Loops & Threads, Soft Classic, Arctic
Dark Blue = Loops & Threads, Impeccable, Blue Moon
Orange = Patons Canadiana, Pumpkin
Red = Patons Canadiana, Raspberry
Yellow = Patons Canadiana, Pale Yellow
Brown = Lions Brand, Woolease, Terrre D’ombre
White = Loops & Threads, Impeccable, White
Felting tools and wool in white and black
Typical additional notions will include: pins, scissors, stitch markers, darning needle
I will be using the US terminology with these specific abbreviations
BLO = back loop only
ch-sp = chain space
dc = double crochet
3dc = 3 dc in the same stitch
dec = decrease (2 sc together)
FLO = Front loop only
inc = increase (2 sc in same stitch)
invdec = invisible decrease (FLO 2 sc together)
mr = magic ring
sc = single crochet
3sc = 3 sc in the same stitch
sl = slip stitch
[] = total stitches at the end of this row or round
If you use medium weight acrylic yarn like I did, the final plush will measure roughly 4.5” H x 5” L x 3” W (11cm x 12.5cm x 7cm), this all varies based on your tension of course.
I labelled this pattern for an intermediate crocheter. Here are the skills and techniques you will need to complete it:
colour change
sewing
needle felting (facial details)
I will have the entire pattern available here. Otherwise, I have a condensed PDF file that you can download, just scroll to the bottom of this post to find it. Print it out and get a binder ready to collect future Pokemon patterns!
If you do ever crochet your own Chewtle, I would love to see your version, please tag me on instagram @knottyrox so I can see it!!

Leave a marker on loop to prevent unraveling, we will continue with this yarn after the mouth.

Pin the head and neck at the front, overlapping the shell rim. Pin the tail between the back legs and the shell rim.
Pin the cheeks, one on each side of the mouth, a little below the middle. If you are happy with the stability and placement of all the pieces, sew them down.
Suggested sewing order:
Cheeks
Legs & Tail
Bottom of neck
Shell rim
Head to body
Needle felt the eyes in black and white. Embroider a line for the eyebrow:
make a straight line from the right end to the left end of the eyebrow
come out at the top of the left eye, go over the previous line, go back in at the same hole to keep it in place
repeat #2 at the right eye
Use white yarn to stitch a few vertical lines on each leg for the toes, or needle felt with white.
