Ferroseed! What more can I say about this cute little dude?
Once again, thanks for all the interest in testing my Ferroseed pattern!
Based on the feedback, it’s a pretty straight forward pattern but maybe a little repetitive for the spikes. Some testers were a little surprised how big it turned out and want to warn you that it may eat up more yarn than expected.
So, if you use medium weight acrylic yarn, the final plush will measure roughly H 16 cm x W 11 cm (6″ x 4.5″), this all varies based on your tension of course.
Check out my testers’ beautiful work!
They were so creative and chose to crochet the eyes instead of needle felting, or even switched up colours to make the shiny version.
Hook size: 3.5 mm or 3.75mm or 4.0 mm
I used a 3.5mm hook, but it’s always up to your own discretion. The best advice is to find the hook that is the closest in size to your yarn.
Yarn: Acrylic Medium weight (4) in silver, black, and green
Being in Canada, these were the specific brands and colours I was able to find and use for my project:
Silver = Loops & Threads, Soft & Shiny, Smoke, Medium (4)
Black = Loops & Threads, Soft & Shiny, Black, Medium (4)
Green = Loops & Threads, Impeccable, Jade, Medium (4)
Felting tools and wool in green, yellow, and black
Typical additional notions will include: pins, scissors, stitch markers, darning needle
I will be using the US terminology with these specific abbreviations
BLO = back loop only
dec = decrease (2 sc together)
FLO = Front loop only
inc = increase (2 sc in same stitch)
invdec = invisible decrease (FLO 2 sc together)
mr = magic ring
sc = single crochet
sl = slip stitch
[ ] = total stitches at the end of this row or round
The skill level needed for this pattern is somewhere between an advanced-beginner to intermediate. Here are the skills and techniques you will need to complete it:
colour change
sewing
needle felting (facial details)
I will have the entire pattern available here if you would like some extra details and tips. Otherwise, I have a condensed 1-pager PDF file that you can download, just scroll to the bottom of this post to find it. Print it out and get a binder ready to collect future Pokemon patterns!
If you do ever crochet your own Ferroseed, I would love to see your version, please tag me on instagram @knottyrox so I can see it!!
The body is built from the top to the bottom in continuous rounds.
I like to mark the stitch as I am completing my first stitch of each round so I know to stop right before the marker.

Leave a long tail for sewing.
Sew spikes as shown in picture. Note that the top of the body is the larger silver area (where you started) compared to the bottom.
If there is a number with an invisible spike, it is directly across on the other side.
Use needle felting to make random black patches and the eyes. You can use this as a template for shaping the eyes (this is a little less helpful on the digital version).
If you would like to purchase the 1-pager condensed version, it is available on my Ravelry. You may also want to add the listing to your project/library/favourites.
